Hi,
I have a finished basement of about 1785 sf of which 360 sf is an unfinished area that contains storage, HVAC mechanicals (furnace, A-coil, humidifier, outside combution air and fresh air ducts), lots of uninsulated supply and return ducts/panning, and the gas HWH. It has no supply or return venting except for leakage from the HVAC system (it does have a combustion outside air duct open into the area). This area is not insulated either on the stud walls to the finished part of the basement, the ceiling, or the foundation concrete walls.
I am looking for some advice about how to decide if I should have someone insulate the space as conditioned space (foundation walls) or insulate it as unconditioned space (finished basement stud walls, insulate ducts, etc.). Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Gary
