He points to the FLUE and calls it conbustion air? Makes no notes about the issues of an OPEN RETURN in the closet of a GAS FURNACE??

Lemme guess...... HOME INSPECTOR? NOT an HVAC Guy..... (we hope)

The MOST "horrifying" thing about this is, someone out there is likely to listen when this jack-ass opens his mouth.

BINGO!

Hummm... Well, I am a Home Inspector and the guy who taught my class was a Idiot who Knew EVERYTHING (any idea where he was from?). His knowledge was Less than the guy in the video. He didn't know a TXV and a Dryer apart. (Looking in a unit a student pointed to a dryer and asked him what "it" was and the Instructor told him a "Metering Device". He thought all refrigerant was "FREON" and couldn't tell a A/C from a Heat Pump. Yes, really.) We spend 2 days on HVAC and I bit 37 holes in my tongue, each day. I'd bet a Hundred Bucks the Instructor I had would not know what a Capacitor even looks like or if a system should even have one. :argue:

I think your "Home Inspector" comment is pretty dead on for 90% or more of the HI's out there. One reason I decided to get my license was after a Bozo did an inspection on a house I sold, he wrote up everything from the kitchen sink to the roof (which was only 3 years old). I told my agent that he missed the Toilet Seats, they had more wear than the Sink! 'Cause we eat out a lot!

After years i have finally found a good home inspector. He is a member of my B.N.I. Chapter.
He asks the buyer if they would like a hvac professional to look at their system since he does not specialize in heating and cooling.
When i sold my house the inspector said i needed to replace the element in the stove. After trying to reason with the idiot i finally gave up.
At the signing i was asked if i had replaced the element, Yep i sure did, its working great..........................it was a gas stove, never heard back.

I don't think we are that lucky. In the replies to the video the guy says "I don't see too many basements here running calls!" I can assume he is a service tech? I don't know why he filmed this anyway. He must be pretty new or he would know what he found is not a rare occurrence or close to the worse things he will see.

I saw quite a few points of light around that roof penetration. I guess they don't get a lot of rain there.

I forgot about the one before, Real estate went Crazy (2x prices) here 4 years ago and I decided to sell one of our condos. Listed it on a Wednesday and had a contract for the asking price by Friday. When the inspector did the inspection the only thing noted was the "Water Heater Is Leaking". Any idea where the air-handler was? Yep, right above the Water Heater any other guesses what happens to condensate drain lines? I figured Screw it, since I was making out like a bandit I just put in a new water heater (when there was nothing wrong with the one). Several times when the condensate drain stopped up water dripped on the water heater. I wanted to tell the guy, "Look Moron, have you ever seen a water heater leak on the outside top before... You see the Rust in the AH over-flow pan?".

What? It was a Gas Stove? As I said, most HI's are Educated Idiots. You won't find that Stupidity on my Report but from a HI who is a hands on guy with experience from concrete to the roof think it makes sale inspections easier? Nope. In many cases the agent will still use the EI's. I'm just not the best on talking Bull Sheeeeet.

"Laugh of the Day" video. As soon as I saw his "Pig tail" connectors I knew what he'd already done. I guess he didn't notice the fan was working better than it used to on 120 volts? Maybe he works on a lot of 120 volt HVAC units?

It's those lessons that cost you money that stick with you.
Your right. At least he's honest and admitted that he backed service valves all the way out a few times. :)

Said it before, we've got our fair share of idiot HI's here, especially with that real estate explosion, everyone was a HI. But a friend has been doing it for quite awhile, has a great background in the field and related fields, licensed in several and the best thing is he knows what he doesn't know and leaves it to those that do.

If you look throught the other you tube vids there's a guy called Dr Zarkloff who demonstrates brazing with a blow torch with a too smaller nozzle, fueled with mapp gas. The sound is speeded up for some reason and he sounds like he's breathed in helium. It's quite funny.

Also check out the induction heating. Look at that ice cube. Entropy or Enthalpy or what, it just doesn't seem right.

I'm not defending the guy, but if you watch the video, he says combustion air from the attic, and there is no ceiling in the closet, and he does make an issue that there is part of the floor missing, I guess they need to paint a picture of what they are talking about for everyone, not just the DIYers.

I do agree with you about the home inspectors, one time I went to a house because they had written up the aluminum wire to an electric furnace, at the time it was legal, may still be, but when I pulled up to the house I saw a gas meter, was kinda wondering why an electric furnace, but as I was going across the attic there was a garden hose strung across the floor, it was a time and material job, and we were slow so I figured I'd check it out, traced the hose, it was coming from a 1/2 BIP coupling with a female hose connection on it and the garden hose was going to the gas log lighter.

I sure felt better that the place was inspected

As the old saying goes, those who can, do those who can't do teach, and those who can't teach inspect

:beat:

Pleeeeese don't go into the HVAC forum on the site, there's another thread that's worse that that one. Really.
