Hello, greetings from North Carolina. I have been lurking here since 10/14 when I experienced my first system
lockout. (This is a GREAT site!) System was only 6 months installed. I asked the tech if the wiring was on the
up-and-up for the system. He assured me that everything was AOK.

Here are the stats: Lennox Merit 14HPX heat pump, CBX27UH Elite Ser. A/H, Honeywell TruZONE HZ432

The system quit again two weeks ago. Of course it was 100 degrees outside, and I am one month outside of the
one-year builder's warranty.

Because of the heat, nobody was available but I managed to get somebody out here. The problem appeared to be
the zoning board. Because I needed some air, the tech re-wired to bypass the
zoning system so that one thermostat is running and pushing air (very slightly) through the entire house. I was told at
this time that the AH was wired for variable speed, and I do not have a variable speed motor.

On Friday I had a 3rd company come out (the 2nd company was trying to 'oversell'). I was told that :

a) there is no bypass damper installed.
b) the system is overcharged with refrigerant

My question is WHY wouldn't they install a BP damper? Isn't this required to operate a zoned environment? My poor system
has been operating like this for over a year and I'm afraid that the unit might have suffered damage.

Thanks for reading. Let me know if you have any questions.

A well designed (which never happens) duct system with zoning in mind can be done without a bypass. Just need to have enough capacity in each zone to keep from overheating or triggering the low limit on the zone panel. In a 2 zone, not too hard. Beyond that, probably impossible. Really wonder if it is the panel, those things are pretty reliable but few techs are sharp on them. Should have a 5 year warranty if it is indeed bad/ .
