Got a call today from a friend who works in the same field I do, heavy building maintenance. He's got it better though, nice school district job.
He's 608 uni. certified, works with HVAC all the time, owns his own recovery equip. etc.
He tells me he's thinking about buying and replacing his A/C system, and asks me if I would help. Now, he knows all the wholesale housees, so I doubt getting the equip would be a problem. I asked him if he thought about the warranty issues, and he basically said that with the money he would save, it might be worth taking a chance.
Now, I know this guy, He will pull all the city permits and get it inspected, plus he's more than capable of doing the work. The only real issue is that he doesn't have a contractor's license, but because he is acting as his own contractor on property he owns, its ok with AHJ.
I told him I wasn't sure it was a good idea, but other than the warranty, I couldn't give him any other reasons.
How about you guys? Do you see any problems with a tech. installing his own equipment?
