High pressure switch

Carrier, 538enf, mini split, 410a..high pressure switch is open even with the compressor off. High pressure switch is welded in place. Can I pinch off the stub, and weld in a new switch using wet rags to insulate the liquid line? Or do I recover, replace switch and dryer while flowing nitrogen, pressure test, evacuate to 250 microns, and then recharge? I am a little Leary of the heat needed to weld in the new switch having an effect on the refrigerant in the system, and I have never used a pinch off tool so opening up the pinch seems sketchy to me. What would you do?...:bump:

Mixed results on my attempt with the pinch off tool. Unsuccessful overall, as I was apparently unable to completely pinch off and isolate the stub...Pinhole leaks, but leaks still the same... On the positive side, the heat from welding was not a problem whatsoever, I will not hesitate to weld on a charged system and I would not worry about the heat, as it can easily be contained...

I kind of knew something would go wrong because EVERY time I try to do a cheaper repair for a customer rather than doing the thorough and complete, comprehensive text book repair, for some reason I end up fighting it..There is another lesson to be learned form that..

Thank you for your advice and for giving me the confidence to try it, and learn from this experience.

Maybe brazing a schraeder stub on, then installing a flare-type HPC.
