So current promotion we have is a free second opinion. And boy did I get a doozy today. 94-95ish rheem package heat pump. Has a brand new scroll 3.5 ton compressor in it. No model or serial on the unit itself. Evap coil did have a readable sticker of qk-036 i believe. The box for the compressor is actually sitting behind the condenser for the upstairs unit. The electrical panel for the package is laying on the hood. The compressor welds look like crap. No filter drier at all in the unit. It's bone dry and you can hear the nitro bleeding out the evap coil.
Now on first convo with the homeowner. I told her she had a failed evap coil and an incorrectly installed compressor. She even called the other guy a moron and said the new compressor has never run because he couldn't get it to work. Also said it was a warranty compressor because he blew the first one up. Essentially end of convo when I told her it would cost more to fix than a new unit would cost.
Now the interesting part. She calls back. Asks me about pressure testing and how I found the leak??? Even asked about the bubbles. I never mentioned pressure testing and soap bubbles to her in our conversation before.
Hmm. So was I just used by a homeowner to diagnose all the screw ups so she could get her hack to try and fix them? Good thing I didn't go into much detail on all the other issues lol.
Other oddities. It's a two story house. Upstairs unit is an 07 maytag. Window units on both upstairs and downstairs??? Wants to sell the house so doesn't want to replace the broken pos??? 250k-300k house with extensive large back deck remodeling being done??? Things just aren't adding up on this one.
