IF the breaker is sized correctly for both the wire and the equipment than I don't see any difference between this arrangement and a non-fused disconnect.

I've seen blown fuses replaced with grossly oversized ones and I've seen blown fuses wrapped in aluminum foil but this was a first.

Yeah; I know. I worry routinely about being struck by lightning too. <g>

The biggest difference is that neither the copper pipe or the disconnect were rated or tested to be used in such fashion!!, if for any reason that unit burst in flames and burn the whole building down the insurance company would be looking for a way out.

careful, I once knew an old guy that had been struck by lightening 3 times throughout his life.

I couldn't resist asking what he thought the good lord was trying to tell him!:whistle:
