Im in my first year of being a tech and the cold season is starting up. Before I possibly run into a headmaster problem I was hoping someone could answer a couple questions about them. I understand somewhat how they work and the purpose. At what pressures do headmasters start to open and close completely? Also whats the best way to troubleshoot if a headmaster is stuck?

I see how that would be confusing now. A better way to ask it is....at what pressure does the valve start to open and at what pressure does the valve close?

And of course i ran into this problem today. Ice machine has headmaster in ice machine head. Line set is tied into the mac unit. Evap was.iced up, thawed out evap. Turned on and unit was going off on low pressure. This machine holds around 21 lbs of r404a. I added about 4 lbs of gas and unit staying running with a head pressure around 150. Unit made some ice but when it went to harvest no ice fell. When unit was in freeze cycle the inlet to thr valve from the.condenser and the outlet from the valve to the receiver both felt cold and the same temp. I ordered a new headmaster valve. Whats your opinions on this?

As for walk ins, if the headmaster valve is stuck closed with low ambient conditions. Pressures would be really low, would the sight glass be bubbling ?
