I'm thinking of gettinga SC56 fieldpeice to use during ac class and around home. I own several flukes but never had anything feildpeice. I wish it used some standard battery like a 9 volt. Anybody had one for a long time battery last a long time or not they seam kind of small, but meter probably does not use much energy. I will use this in place of my fluke 87 since it has temperature and current clamp ring.

Thanks Mike357

my SC 64, 66 & 77 all use 9v batteries

never had any issues with them, except for leads, no one makes an indestructible lead

I've had my sc66 for about 6 years now, changed 9v battery 4 times and leads once. Love that meter it has taken a beating and still works great.

I've had an sc77 for about 5 years. It replaced a fluke. It's a great meter I bought another a few months ago. Saturday took the jeep out on a call, and when I got back I threw the meter up on the top near the back. Rolled out sunday late afternoon in the jeep and heard and saw my meter hit the ground 1/4 mile from the house. Stopped and retrieved it. The case opened up a bit. Checked it monday against brand new one and they are within tenths.

My SC56 took a bath today. I forgot it near a refer condenser when I went to get a hose, washed out the coil. Then noticed the meter underneath right where the bulk of the water ran off the coil.

I shook the water off and used it several more times today, no problems.

I have the hs32 ( I think that's the one). It's been good. Only broke down due to self inflicted damage. Forgot to switch from continuity to voltage before checking volts and popped fuse. After the factory warranty expires you can send in with a $45 check to be repaired or sent a rebuilt replacement. I've done that once I think you still can. Use it til it breaks, switch to your back up for a few weeks and get a new meter for $45.

I have a fieldpiece I am getting used to, but really prefer fluke, guess Im just stuck on the name, but have had really good luck with fluke, fluke is all I have used for the last 13 years till this last fall got a field piece amp clamp so far it seems to be working as well as the fluke. Really like the magnetic back on the fieldpiece, well until I forget it and leave it attached to the plenum or something.

Mike I have one of those meters . Here's what I think.

Pros: it has a non contact voltage "sniffer", it reads temp and is accurate, it auto ranges very well

CONS: the wire clamp is too oblong for some areas, and if you leave the leads plugged in and just wrap them around the meter it will break the common plug-in loose. I've done that twice already........ however they did replace it NQA.

Over all its a handy little meter and the backlight is great. They could have stabilized the lead adapters a little better. I bought mine for les than 100 bucks .

Same here. The meter is bulletproof.

Is that the one with the 360 dial and the lead plug-ins at the very top?

If so, that meter was the best one of all 5 feildpeice meters I carry.

I just don't have it in front of me to remember the model....

I use the sc77 with fluke twist leads. I like the meter overall specifically the ohm function. I once had a uei which was crap with a backlight that was misleading from the pic on the package but i miss that damn magnet.

One way to eliminate that is to swivel the leads so they run straight up the front of the meter, through the clamp, then down and wrap them around. This way there is no strain on the plugs and the leads last longer.

The Fieldpiece HS36 is still the cream of the crop IMO. I used an SC66 for a few years before that. I will probably use it for as long as they make one and I've had mine for over 6 years. There's almost nothing it can't do with the right head on it. Fluke makes great stuff too but they don't have anything nearly as versatile.

After owning 10 fieldpiece meters, I personally would have hard time calling them "bulletproof".

We just switched to Fluke 902 and like it. Milwauk hvac meter was a piece of junk.
