I'm contemplating having a couple pieces of jewelery made up, most likely a pendant that'd hang on a necklace. I don't want something that looks like it came from a gumball machine, but.. on the other hand I don't exactly want to spend major cash on this little project either.

I've seen some basic outlines of a sprint car in necklace form, but I'm throwing the idea around of making a few that have the shape of a dirt late model. I've done my best to google this to see even what a rough ball park price would be, or where to even look, but I've come up empty with my searches. My idea could quickly be stopped due to price, or I might just be shocked and think to myself "well, that's not as bad as I thought".

So do you folks have any general directions to look for such a place to inquire my creation?

You are talking about casting a metal piece, which is going to include drawing the design on clay, making a mold from the clay, and casting the metal in the mold, and finishing and polishing, possible electroplating for corrosion resistance. Creating a single piece will be expensive..

The other option I just thought of is to take the desing to a good machine shop with a cnc machine.

Well, it likely wouldn't be one piece, but it sure wouldn't be very many lol.

The drawing it up part is a piece of cake (I have a couple ideas already done).

I like the CNC shop idea, but that's a pretty dang small part, could be a challenge (humm, maybe I need to buy a CNC mill... it's been on the xmas list for a while... course, that'd make the pendants REALLY expensive!).

I went to the jeweler told him what I wanted, gave him my budget and he came up with something nice and in the end, was under budget by a good bit. (He got a better stone at a better price). He has a rep for being a stand up guy.
LONG ago I had another ring made, looked like crap, but it was my idea. Glad I don't have to look at it or the finger it was on anymore.
