My boss bought a replacement compressor for 277volt powered water source heat pump. When he opened the special ordered box, the compressor was 230v. The supply house told him that was the right one and that he just had to change the capacitor.

What do you think?

Any advice appreciated.

We're going to need a model # on this one.

Personally I doubt it.

Here are the specs for that compressor.
Trane, American Standard 1.7 HP, 208-230V, 1 PH, 19,000 BTU, R410A, Hermetic (Reciprocating) Compressor Replacement"

I can't see that working with 277 VAC. 264.5 VAC would be the standard max service amperage.

Although the one you replaced had the same 230 VAC SPEC.
I assume you mean voltage
