there are good and bad on both sides of this fence. i do work for Trane.

some of the bad...
1. you probably do not get the variety (as much anyway) as the local service companies
2. you have to work on your specific brand...whether you like it or not, esp. under warranty
3. you get a lot of guff from the non-manufacturer service techs, everybody thinks that i'm trying to steal their account...reality check...i have plenty to do without stealing your accounts
4. a brand new piece of equipment just came out...it does not work...you "HAVE" to fix it now..."Hey, you are the factory trained guy...get it running!"
5. (let's have everyone else fill this one in)

some of the good...
1. you talked about trending...you can have lots of that
2. you can get most excellent at a piece of equipment since you will be working on them more often
3. training is USUALLY more often (i think that i will hear replies to this one)
4. you get to work on the latest (sometimes it is even the greatest, sometimes it is not)
5. you usually get the inside scoop, the real answers...not the ones that marketing and the lawyers give out
6. (let's have everyone else fill this one in, too)

i prefer working for a manufacturer (we are a franchise though...that can be a BIG difference). sometimes it gets old, but generally i really like it.

let us know what/where you chose.

good luck

awe crap...not again

here we go again...in some areas, the unions are really good for the industry, work well, and all is good and the non union shops are terrible. in some areas of the country, i am sure that it is opposite. if the union is good in your area and you are with the union...great. if it is not good and you are not with the union...great.

let us nip this part of this thread in the bud.

thanks.
