I have a contractor recommending AIRTEMP KSK4DH model 18000 to cool and dehumidify an approximate 800sf area. area is an upper floor with three bedrooms and one bath adjacent located down a hallway, adjacent to an approximate 275 sf ,[11'x25'], open area room wherein the unit will be located. the open area is above an open stairway leading to a lower floor level which is naturally cool because it is partially below grade. We need the product to provide uncompromised, QUIET cooling/dehumidification to the bedroom areas and are told that it will also cool the lower level. have to 'leave bedroom doors open' to insure function. [difficulty is running duct work].
we have been reliant upon a 24 yr old Whirpool coolerator model # AR2400XAO thru wall unit, approx. 15000 btu but it is just too loud and expensive to run. energy guide 9.0. this unit cooled lower level quite well and is still operational.
health reasons demand adequate cooling and dehumidification process. age requires quiet to sleep. budget requires more cost efficiency for limited income.
Please give your recommendations or warnings as to product performance and operating longevity that can be expected. do I buy this or as my loving boss of many decades says " just buy some damn earplugs" and leave well enough alone?
