Central A/C replacement versus heat pump? Daikin vs Bosch vs Rheem?

Looking to replace my very old central A/C unit. I got a few quotes and i think i narrowed it down to these. I am still undecided between and undecided if i should replace with a ducted heat pump or just do the ducted A/C replacement. I have a newer boiler so i'm covered heat wise but since they say the heat pumps are more efficient for cooling. The heat option sounds like it would be a nice to have option and is only a couple thousand more. I'm in NJ zone 6/7.

Option 1 (A/C)
****

Daikin 4 Ton 15 Seer DC5SEA4810

Optional replace metal supply trunk and all flex lines with R-8 Ducting ****

(***** total including replacing ducts)

Option 2 (A/C)
****

Rheem 15.2 Seer RA1342NZ

Option 3 (Heat Pump)
*****

Daikin 4 Ton 17.5 Seet DZ6VSA481E

Optional replace metal supply trunk and all flex lines with R-8 Ducting ****

(***** total including replacing ducts)

Option 4 (Heat Pump)
*****

Bosch 5 ton 20 Seer BOVA-60HDN1-M20G

Option seal existing duct work and wrap with bubble duct wrap ****

(***** total including sealing/wrapping existing duct work)

Didn’t see a Daikin DC5SE, did see a DX5SE, if so that is a well equipped outdoor unit, compressor sound blanket, a high and low pressure safety switch, a Copeland Coresence compressor protection module, a built in filter drier. Manufacturer warranty of 12 year parts and coil and compressor. If compressor fails in the 1st 6 years you get a new outdoor unit. Indoor Air Handler has a 12 year parts and coil warranty if it’s a Daikin.

The RA13NZ, depending on complete model number, is either a bare bone outdoor unit, meaning no pressure safety switches, no compressor sound blanket and a standard 10 year compressor and parts and coil warranty. The bare bone model model number is RA1342NZAJ1NA, the better featured model which includes just the high and low pressure safety switch model number is RA1342NZAJ1NALHP. Ask which model they are bidding, betting it’s the bare bone model.

Air Handler has a standard 10 years parts and coil.

What’s the labor warranty between the two.

On paper the Daikin has the superior manufacturer warranty and the outdoor unit comes with more standard feature compared to the Rheem.

The Daikin Heat Pump is a side discharge and can be mounted inches from a wall and has a smaller footprint compared to the conventional upflow discharge Bosch. The Daikin has the superior manufacturer warranty of the two. 12 years parts and coil warranty and if compressor fails in the 1st 12 years you get a brand new outdoor unit and not a replacement compressor like the Bosch, which their warranty tops out at 10 years parts , coil and compressor.

If the Bosch Contractor is a ABC Bosch rated Contractor, they can bump up the manufacturer warranty an extra year to 11, as they got the extra training on install, setup and troubleshooting on those complicated inverters. Hopefully the same can be said about the Daikin Contractor.

What is the labor warranty of both Heat Pump brands?

Ask for the AHRI number of all the bids, as you don’t go by the up to rating of the outdoor unit alone to get efficiency ratings. If the Contractors are letting you think that, they are misleading you. To get efficiency rating in SEER2 and EER2 and for Heat Pumps HSPF2 you match the indoor selection to the outdoor section to get your efficiency ratings on paper, typically not real world numbers but should be close.

Here is the site to check efficiency ratings once getting the AHRI number.

There is the Federal Tax Credits such as this good luck figuring it out:grin2:

Your state should have rebates also.

sorry that was my typo, the Daikin heat pump is DZ6VSA481E (air handler DFVE60DP1400). The Daikin AC if i go that route is DC5SEA4810 (air handler AMST48CU1300).
The Daikin contractor is listed on the Daikin website for contractors.

The bosch contractor is not listed on the bosch website.

The Daikin looks like the manufacture 12-year unit and parts limited warranty. I dont see anything in the proposal for labor and they do say the unit needs to be maintained by the install company for the duration of the warranty for it to be valid.

The Bosch is 2 years labor, 10 years for parts and compressor.

The Rheem says 10 year manufacture warranty. The install company is providing 10 year warranty covering any service-related labor

Thanks again.
It looks like the Diakin A/C is R-32, btuh of 45500, seer2 15.2, eer2 12.5

Daikin Heat pump is r-410a , btuh of 44000, seer2 17, eer2 10, hspf10 8.6

Bosch heat pump is r-410a, btuh of 47000, seer2 18.5, eer2 12, hspf2 9.5

like you said, i dont have enough info on the rheem to check it
