I see a few threads on these manifolds here, but the one question I have is: What EXACTLY is the difference between the YJ bruteII manifold and the titan maniifold? I'm due for a new set, but I can't get a hands on look at either of these. Can't really see any diff with pics on the internet, and none of the supply houses around here carry either of them. It kinda looks like the bruteII manifold bar is larger than the titan, but I can't find any specs of dimensions. Has anyone actually held and can tell me the difference.

BTW, it's urgent that I get a new set. Due to some crack smoker stealing my old YJ set off a jobsite, I had to whip up a quick set in a pinch with misc parts I had kicking around the truck. This abortion consists of a cps alum bar, a liquid filled 410a gauge for the high side, a regular old white face 1-1/2" pressure gauge for the low side, and all the hoses are the same color. Looks like hell, but it saved my ass on an important call. If anyone knows a good retailer online, please let me know.

Thanks

I am not an authority on this, but what I figured out is that the difference is that one is wider than the other.

The 'skinny' one is the one that comes on the Digital gauge set. I just got my YJ digital about a month ago, I really like it. And the manifold is a good one!

I was just looking at that bad boy online and thinking about going digi. Is every port tapped 3/8", or just the vac. Are the valves single turn, or does it take a few turns to get them all the way open.

Only port that is 3/8 is the vacuum. And the valves are multiple turns to open. One thing I have noticed is that the Titan/Brute is not as sensitive as the old 42 (?) series YJ manifold when it comes to the valves.

I use the Digital for analysis and charging. I use an old YJ for evacuation and 'messy/dirty' work.

Digital is the way to go IMO! But the going rate for the YJ is around $700 as far as I know. I got mine at CC Dixon for a little less, but the folks in there know me...

My old, now missing set was an old 41 series, probably sitting in some pawn shop somewhere as we speak. I like the feel of sidewheels, vs. the bar I'm using now which has two single turn valves facing forward. The cheapest place I saw that yj job you have was an online retailer for around 650. I definitely like the idea that they whip out the math for you, but I know me, if I buy a set of 700 dollar gauges, I'll never use them because I won't want them to get dirty.:D They'll wind up cruising in the front seat so they don't get crushed into dust by something in the back of the rig. Looks like I can get the brute II mani with 1% gauges and boots for around a buckfiftyish.

Thanks for the input, that gave me an idea what they'll be like when they get here.

If you ever get a chance to 'kick the tires' of the YJ digital, you might be surprised. It is pretty tough, made VERY well (that is the reason I chose that one).

Enjoy your Brute/Titan!

Brute II no longer available. I have a "brand new in box" make an offer as I am semi retired. ;)

Sounds like you have a lot of faith in them and I can relate to that. That's how I am, I never buy anything that I think may be built cheap, or break easy, but I DO like having the good stuff on hand. Better tools just feel better, right. I think I'll give those a hard look, and see if I can find a retailer around here that has a set I can fondle.

Doug Lockhart that invented the Yellow Jacket one and the original DigiCools is a day to day working tech. He tests the cases when he gets them by placing said case on concrete and hitting with a hammer. That is the honest to gods truth. I have the Digicool DRSA1100 and the DRSA1200 which is the exact same as the Yellow Jacket but another color. These gauges get used daily in dirt, rain oil and whatever as I mostly do transport reefers and mobile a/c. You do not have to worry about using them on any kind of a dirty system as the refrigerant never contacts the sensors directly.

If you don't believe me contact him at DigiCool .com.

icehouse, they must have stopped making them recently because I see them all over the internet. I wonder if it would be a problem with replacement parts, or anything like that. I see the titan is shown as having a lifetime warranty on the bar and valves. If the brute isn't manufactured any more, then maybe YJ dropped the replacement parts line also.

If the price is right, I'll take'em anyway. Are the hoses included also. PM me with an asking price. Thanks

I would stay away from the new style Brutes no matter what the price. I have a set of the original ones that is a machined block of aluminum instead of cast like the new ones and other than replacing pistons assemblies a few times have had zero problems. I tried 3 sets of the new ones and everyone leaked. The Titans are a cast manifold but they seemed to have gotten it right as I have not had any problems since I bought them.

I have the originals, not the recent stuff. E-mail for price comes with hoses

I love my liquid filled titans valve, and highly recommend them.

I also recommend the new testo 523 digital.

Brute Gauges

Personally I like using a set of plain YellowJacket Series 41 gauges with the rubber boots on the lenses. Unless you are really blasting in a ton of refrigerant into a system, (supermarket rack etc.) I think a standard set will get the job done for you!
