Any one ever do this. I was at j mart today. A local contractor was picking up cases of mapp. I asked of he also plumbed. He replied. Nope I use this to braze my ac linesets. He could sense the wtf going on in my mind. He explained it. Claims he saves a good bit of money using mapp.

Mapp gas works fine on small lines like 3/8 " and as long as you're not in a spot where heating for an extended period of time will cause a problem it works O.K. on bigger lines like 5/8" and 3/4". I've sweat in plenty of condenser units with Mapp gas when I didn't have an acetylene or oxy/acet torch available. I still keep some Mapp gas with me as a backup in case i run out of acetylene or oxygen in the middle of a job, especially on a weekend. I wouldn't try to do an RV with Mapp gas but for most residential work you can get away with it.

IMO nothing beats an Oxy/Acetylene torch.
And I always carry a spare bottle of each gas.
One ALWAYS runs out when they least expect to.

I remember a TXV change I did with StaBrite8 and the Oxy/Ac torch....
Cranked down the pressure on both gases, had an itsy-bitsy little flame...
And it soldered up quickly and clean.

The only thing I do not like about using StaBrite8... is the flux. I do not like flux in my systems.

Never try it. The oxy acetylene comes with gauges so when its low trade them in. I use a B tank. Last a long time. I carry 50' hoses so attics or under the house is not an issue. I even drilled out my #2 tip to like a #54 drill. Which is like a 2.5 tip

Yeah mapp and oxygen is a great combo. Easily solder 1 3/8" with no problems. Takes all of 2 seconds to switch out a tank and no more having to buy a high dollar act tank to switch out. Here's a link to the one I have used for atleast 5 years now. No more fooling with regulators that constantly get off while slamming around in your truck as well.
