My 28yo Bryant AC has never had a problem and has seen very light duty over the years. Last night compressor and condenser fan did not come on. I flipped panel circuit breaker off and back on and outside unit (fan and compressor) came on. Worked fine all last night and so far today. Could this be a weird one off deal or should I call a tech? Thanks.

I’m confused by your question and the fact you are listed as a “Professional Member” - are you a tech or not?

Your profile states nothing.

If you are a tech, then this thread needs to be moved out of the “AOP” forum, and into the “Pro Residential” forum.

Once there, please provide more detailed information about what you have done to troubleshoot this problem.

If you are asking this question as a homeowner with no technical back ground, please call a tech to troubleshoot the problem, as we do not provide DIY help in this forum.

Side note: at 28 years old, I would also start saving for a new system. :.02:

I am not a pro. This is first time I logged on in 8 years so must be a system glitch. I know not to ask for DIY help here so I do not. My question was whether it would make sense to wait to see if unit fails again before I spend money for a diagnosis. Sometimes weird stuff happens once and never again.

I have a technical background and do all of my auto, electrical, plumbing, appliance repair, etc. I consider myself fully capable of diagnosing this problem but am getting too old to tear into it.

28 yrs old?
what does your yearly maint schedule look like ?
Did you ask the tech who did your yearly service/Maint?

As stated by "epacertified", when was the last time someone looked at this unit?

With intermittent issues, I personally would have someone look over it. That way it might have a chance of lasting long enough until you can afford a new system.

Yeah, I know. That’s why I was reluctant to hire a tech to chase an intermittent problem.
The question you have to ask yourself is - are you a gambling man?

You only have a few choices:

1. Call a tech to comb the unit for obvious issues in an attempt to stave off a known problem until you can afford a new unit.

2. Do nothing and pray you have enough saved when it does ultimately die.

3. Just be done with it and get a newer more efficient system installed.

Only you can make that decision, based on your current financial situation.
