CCNMan -
A few years ago I put together a DDC training course at the request of a apprenticeship director. It was a learning experience to say the least. Our students were HVAC apprentices.
There were some major challenges;
1. Some had little to no computer skills.
2. Some never work on controls - mostly serve techs but some are mainly installers.
3. Most control lines are locked into certain companies. Why teach a student to work on a control line they can not use.
Solutions we developed:
1. I had a local computer guru teach a short class on basic computer skills. The first one we did we purchase the parts and built the computers in class.
2. Start with basic control theory. Actually started with pneumatics then moved to DDC. Pneumatics will teach theory and system needs better than straight DDC. IHMO.
3. Used Honeywell LCBS from a local supply house. Any student could purchase the product and software is cheap and reuseable. Students starting installing the line no matter who they work for. Also the local rep benefits and usually will help with pricing.
We covered basic computer skills,control theory, pnuematics, ddc electronics, and Honeywell LCBS. After a few years of fine tuning it turned out pretty well. I first did this by myself - very difficult. I got a another guy locally to help deveop it and it really took off.
Anyway, hope this helps.
Good Luck.
