I’ve also used this setup for cleaning up vermiculite particles from carbon and soot choked malfunctioning gas log fireplaces and on wood stove and fireplace ash without issue.
Maybe it's just luck, but it has alaways worked fine for me.

Hope I'm not setting myself up to look like a fool but, "vermiculite" is asbestos correct? And your cleaning this stuff up with a store bought shop vac? You would be re-contaminating the area if your not using the proper equipment.

Correct me if I am wrong.
