Why a drier? when a suction filter with a by-pas was made specifically for use there.
I've learned over my few short years that on larger systems we always put in a suction drier. I guess there isn't a huge advantage having one but it will cover our customers butt one day if something broke loose. Like a perfect example. We installed a big walk in for the local farmer who runs a fall corn maze and all that stuff, it was installed about a year ago and I got called out saying it wouldn't run. Checked my gauges 0 psi on both lines and I know for a fact it didn't have a leak when we left. I charged it with nitrogen and I could hear it screaming inside the Evap from outside the unit. A valve stem inside the suction line was literally broke off. My drier will catch that metal piece and not the compressor :)
