Web base

How can one get away from the web base??

I have a customer that is wanting to get away from the JCI web base, as JCI will no longer support the software installed in 2005.

Java updates are a current problem.

 

Yeah we have had problems with the Java ourselves. Other buildings that we own use different systems so Java was a constant issue moving between the sites. But, the last update we recieved took care of that problem not sure which update is was though.

 

Never worked with JCI. But worked as a CxA for a major BioTech firm when they updated their previous generation Andover system (SX-8000/Infinity) to the latest (Continuum) on a 30+ building campus, including office/lab/production/animal/multiple plants all connected together on campus wide grid. BACnet integration/York-Talk integration/Carrier CCN integration. Some intense sequences and tight control. All accomplished by the Andover system.

It works if the installing contractor know what they are doing. If JCI has been treating you right use them. Who ever gets the project, you should get a independent commissioning authority to verify not only that the installed system is open and meets the owners requirements as documented in the project scope.

I just completed a project integrating 2 Trane RTU on a MSTP buss into a ALC webCTRL system and there were no issues. Discovered the points, wrote the program, linked the points and it was off to the races. That's the extent of my experience with new generation Trane. I also work on a building that has a complete Trane system (60-70VAV/2 AHU/CH) from 6-8 years ago being brought into WebCTRL via BACnet/IP through the BCU, monitoring only.

Two things that come to mind,

First thing is that Andover is part of Schneider/TAC and the software for programming is properitary, unless you get the complete software package with the system.
JCI Metasys is a little more open in that respect.

Second thing is that the contractor for the Andover will also try and get into an agreement for service and parts for up to 5 years, but aware.

Andover is good in that it will integrate most items in the system.

Make sure your contractor knows what they are getting into with your existing system and not just a saleman pitch for the job.

Thanks guys for your input. They are supposed to be giving the complete system for programming and training for five years (service agreements are a dirty word for me so that won't be a issue). I would like to stick with JCI but the decision is not mine to make. The NAE 55's that we have are capable of
N2 and Bacnet, but more worried about the ADS system that is our archive database and how that would work. I know JCI has a bad wrap sometimes but our local branch is top notch and they know how to treat a customer.
