American Standard SEER Ratings

I have been reading that the SEER rating of the airconditioning unit will vary depending on the furnace/air handler and coil it is mated with.

I understand why this is the case and that there are many charactoristics of the system that effect SEER but is there any way to look this information up?

I have an American Standard dual stage Comfort-95 3 ton variable speed furnace with a 3 ton American Standard 15 SEER Condensor (R410A) and the "all aluminum" 3 ton matching coil. (The coil is actually from Trane but i understand that they are interchangable).

No where on the AS web site or any other web site i can find a matrix showing the SEER rating with the associated equipment.

My HVAC guy says it should be 15 SEER with the associated equipment i got but how does the professional or anyone else make this determination when selecting equipment?

The whole system works great and i'm assuming my ducting is adequate.

You can leave blank many of the search criteria and get a larger set of answers. I guessed at your criteria and somehow got only one match (I usually get pages of them). It documented an Allegiance 15 system with 16 SEER, 13 EER, ARI reference # 3513405. Yours probably is different and might not be as great. I am a homeowner and my own Allegiance 18 3.0 ton system is rated at 17.25 SEER with the coil I have, and the EER is less than yours. Whenever I must replace the next system, I would love to have one like yours in 2.5 ton size.

Hope this helps -- Pstu

Thank you

Folks,
Thanks for the information.

I went to the AHRI web site, entered my system configuration and got the information. I knew there were system certifications just didn't know where to go to find them.

My system was rated at 14.5 SEER with an EER of 12. Just misses the Govt. Tax credit on the AC but I got it on the Furnace.

FYI, I was going to go with the 18 SEER AC but just couldn't justify the increase in cost living here in NY. Not enough cooling days to re-coup the extra investment and complexity of the dual stage compressor in that sytem.

I hope i made the right decision to spend the extra $$ on the 95% dual stage furnace and that the 15 SEER AC should be efficient enough for Westchester NY.
