Hey

Is there any real benefit to any of these or should I go for the cheapest? Is one any more reliable than the others? I can find bad reviews on all of them on furnacecompare but that is true of every unit I look at.

13 Seer Rheem
13 Seer American Standard
14 Seer American Standard
16 Seer Rheem removed pricing

Located in Vancouver, BC.

They all have the same conditional warranty as far as I can tell.

Also, a 3.5 ton unit is being replaced and the estimate is suggesting 4 ton units. Any potential problems with that? The furnace is 100,000 BTU (American Standard Freedom 90 AUY100R9V4W). Maybe he made a mistake and thought the existing one was 4.

Bigger is not better. Question why he's going bigger? Odds are your duct system can't support bigger - they're usually undersized as it is.

We sell Rheem & American Standard. I'd rather have American Standard. Made in USA, has compressor protection high & low pressure switches, swept wing fan blades for lower sound ratings. Those of us in the Rheem biz were disappointed when they dropped the 40 year old rectangle design with deluxe features and went to units that look like everybody else with no frills.

Well this is what happens when you sell out to people that are cheap by nature. Perfect example...."Hyundai Motor Co and Kia Motors Corp plan to recall 1.48 million vehicles in the United States, Canada and South Korea due to engine issues. :gah:

How is this new system being sized?

Something to consider:

Heating and AC is an installed product! The installation is MORE IMPORTANT than the product.

I would choose your contractor wisely!

If I were quoting you, prices for a RA13 and 4A7A would be about the same. All depends upon how the local dealer prices and what kind of prices he can get from his suppliers.

Joey, neat video. Back in the day when everything was unique and didn't look alike as they do now!

If they weren't as fat, the new Rheems are almost clones of the Lennox Merit A/Cs. Hmmm, both made in Mexico...
