Its perfect. You certainly dont want to overheat the electronics inside the stat. Thats why computer rooms have their own A/C systems.

no plastic deflector, and in that location a deflector would get destroyed in short order anyhow.

yup.

A did about 10 systems in a MH park awhile back.

You would think that with a pre-engineered structure they would be able to avoid this stuff, but I guess not. Apparently nobody felt involved enough.

You always see that kinda stuff in man manufactured homes. I always see floor registers literally in the middle of the room.

Our church has one similar. It's about 4' over from the stat and bigger like 6x12, but still close enough to blow on it. What's really odd I think is why would you put two registers at the back of a church when all the return has to go through the back doors.
