Recently moved into a new ~1350 sqft home, Single Story. Attic seems to have new insulation throughout. Unit is a Trane XR 3 ton, new from 2016

It's gotten very hot here in South Florida over the past week or so and with my nest app I noticed the AC has been running 14 hours during the week and 18 hours during the weekend. We set it pretty low at night, 68-70 which it has no trouble doing and even shuts off from time to time. During the day when were at work, we set it to 78 and back to 75-76 at around 5pm

During the weekend, we have it at 76 at it runs almost non stop trying to keep it at that temperate. Outside temp is around 92-95. Humidity in the house hover around 40-45% which is great considering the 70-90% outside.

The temp drop between intake and nearest vent is about 20 degrees.

Is this run time going to damage the unit over time?

What is it you don’t like about being comfortable?

You can always turn it off and let the house temperature rise.

I understand it should shut off when it approaches temp but in my scenario, I had it set to 76 and it ran non stop from 12pm to 6pm.
non-stop period to TOO SHORT.
___________ SHOULD BE 11 AM to 9 PM.

I guess 76'F SetPoint helped significantly on your OverSized unit.

… Setting it to 70'F one Should Expect 23.987 Hours /Day

A/C System may only last 13 years if you run it > 3,200 hours / Year.

With those long run times, you are living our dream. Avoid those low indoor temperatures below the outdoor dew point. the exterior surfaces condense moisture that will migrate through the surfaces.
Keep us posted on how things work out when the outdoor heat declines next fall. I would expect the %RH to rise inside during raining weather and cool temps.

Long run times are good. When it's 95-100Âş outside the system should run non-stop.

But I have another concern. When the system eventually cycles off - how long does it Stay off? Are the off cycles particularly short?
