Sent to another commercial maintenance we never been to.
Pulled up and was happy at first. Thought I was going to have a good time working on some RTU's on this roof.

WRONG!!!

Image

A damn SPLIT system. Notice the company (a local commercial A/C company initials P.A.) installed this new system. Note the 20+ yr old disconnect?

But first I like to do the air handlers.

Image

I got to go up there???

Image

Way up there. And not much to stand on. It's right above a steel framed wall. So the ladder can't go under the unit.

Image

The only thing to step on is the top of this wall.

Image

A 7 1/2 ton trane. Hard to get up in there. I HATE t-grid jobs in Phoenix!

Image

Another view of the steel wall which is ALL you have to stand on.

Image

I had a little more access on this side.
Them jack ass' installed the secondary pan all crooked. It's not even as wide as the unit. and the drain is in the MIDDLE not the corner of the pan. So you know that biatch will fill with water then buckle before it ever drains!

Image

and like the condenser unit. They went through all the trouble to re install the OLD ASS disconnect!

they used seal tight out the bottom to go to the heat strips in the supply plenum. but just pulled the three wires out this side and into a hole of the side of the A/H for the blower!

Image

Oh yeah. and it's been leaking water each summer.
Yeah. it's 1/4 inch out in just 6 inches! So it was sagging about an inch or more towards the side without the drain. I tried to re level it,

Image

... but it wasn't working. that wasn't enough!
So I yanked out that drain and moved the outlet to the other side. Might as well use the side it's pitched towards.
Dumb Shits.

You aint shittin'!

Someday, someday.

I could post some before and after pictures on the site as well :)

I'd have to just pase myself so I wouldn't get over whelmed and turn into "one of them" (all shifty eyed and sh*t!) trying to throw in 2 and 3 RTU's a day in the summer to "git er done!" :)

Hey payson, just do as do,bite my lip and think to myself, eventually these guys doing this are gonna make me a lot of money when i go in business for myself.Save some photos for customers to show what they won't be gettin, jus don't give any names or locations on the photos

From the looks of it the only thing going for you is that you can slide out the condensate pan I know early Trane unit are impossible to clean out.The other fun thing about those units is that they will sometimes throw a worn belt and break the cap tube for the txv bulb or the battles you have to handle when replacing that contactor in the small box.I have notice that most techs don't know you need to split the coils on that style condensing unit to clean them.

You mean like this?

This unit was only two years old. I split the coil last summer and found it plugged with cottonwood debris and lawn clippings. I can only imagine what kind of crap it might collect sitting up on a rooftop exposed to the prevailing winds.

Is that a 7/8" suction line coming out next to that disconnect?
Which disconnect?

The one in the A/H looks to be the 3/8 doing a loop for some reason.

On the Rooftop I think that's just conduit next to that disconnect. But I think the suction line WAS 7/8 rather than 1 1/8 LOL!
