Hello,
We are looking to replace our Heat Pump with a new A/C unit and a new thermostat, as it has been giving us issues and it seems to be nearing the end of its life. We had a local company give us an estimate on installing a new Trane unit. Below are some details on our house, our current system, and some the proposed replacements:
About our house:
• 2-Story Colonial
• Located in Metro-Detroit Michigan area
About our A/C unit (installed in 2007):
• Thermostat = Bryant Evolution (replace with a thermostat compatible with replacement unit)
• Furnace = Bryant 355AV0420 (looking to keep this)
• Heat Pump = Bryant 286ANA036 (looking to replace with the below listed units)
Proposed Replacements:
• Trane XR16
• Trane XL16I
• Trane XR17
• Trane XL18I
I ran into a couple questions on this that I was hoping to get some help with:
• Since we will be replacing a Bryant thermostat with a non-Bryant thermostat, we will lose the ability to monitor fault codes on the furnace. Is this a big deal?
• Based on living in Michigan, would it be a good idea for us to get a 2-stage compressor? From my understanding, it seems like these are more efficient and give better performance - with the tradeoff being that they cost more and can be more problematic to maintain. Would this be Over-kill for Michigan? We have less hot months, but it gets fairly humid here.
• From looking online, it seems like Trane is a good brand. Any experience on their units?
Please let me know if any additional information is needed, and I can follow up.
Thanks!
