Our A/C condensate drains via a pvc pipe to the crawl space sump pit. Well...almost, the contractor missed it by about 2 inches. I added pvc pipe so it fits over the top lip of the pit. The pit does not have a sump pump in it, and as far as I know just has dirt on the bottom. It was installed back in the 50's.
1) Is this up to code?
2) We are encapsulating the space, should I have another drainage solution when we replace the unit in the fall? Maybe draining into the laundry tub sink like the furnace condensate?
3) How deep should the pit be?

Draining to the sump pit without a working sump pump is not up to code.
I can have it drain to our laundry sink via a condensate pump, just like the furnace. I can also have it drain to the outside, which would be fairly simple. When I upgrade our system I'll will make sure it is up to code.
I going to monitor the R.H. after encapsulation. If it stays below 75%, I think I will pass on the dehumidifier.

It is below grade. I'll monitor what happens when the water from the A/C drains empties into it. Or, I could just dump a pitcher of water in it and see what happens.
