Right now I do apartment maintenance. I am sick of how hackish this place is and the people who inhabit the complex. Built from the ground up without a plan.
I picked up an application at the pipefitters union on monday. I would really rather go to hobarts for welding but I am already in too deep with devry (Yes I learned something but the ratio of smarts to cost is absurd) I would like to do the apprentice pipefitter and since they pay you while you learn it seems like a good deal.
I can tell if I stay at my current job, I might see a fifty cent raise over the next 4 years. I would take a dollar an hour hit for the first year in the union.
I make 15.50 an hour now, on call one week on two weeks off. The learning seems to make it worth it. I just don't want to be 45 and still stuck doing this for sub $20 which is exactly what will happen if I stay.
I have no problems working long hours but I hate going home, showering or sleeping and have some lady call me with an attitude to fix something she broke or flushed.
