Pretty much as the title says. All our ducting will be in the joists/floor trusses, but would rather build a chase in the corner of the upstairs room and have ducting in that with a high register. I assume it would be much easier and less expensive to pop up through the floor, but thought I'd get your opinions. Thanks

You haven’t told us anything about the house. Is this new construction or remodeling, is the fan coil unit in a basement, crawl space, or attic? Split system or package unit?
Do you live in a cooling or heating dominant area?

Sorry. New construction in the drawing phase. Split on bench in garage, then 8' away over the kitchen will be a plenum, from there about an 18' run for trunks and branches in the floor trusses. So Cal, so a little more heat dominant.

Heat is best dispensed from the floor. Cooling for the second floor, if above conditioned space, works well from the ceiling.

On the 2nd floor we don't want any of the ducts in the attic. Can't bring up through walls as trusses will be full length on those walls. So my thought was to close in a corner and come up through that from the floor trusses and put the register on that wall as close to the ceiling as we can. Does this seem to be the best option?

The supplies look alright.
Does the dotted line for the return indicate the location of the grille? It appears the dotted return is in the bathroom with the potential of being isolate by closed doors. If so, I advise relocating it on the wall above what I take to be the stairs.

With it presumably being "Open Construction", I'd have the Supplies in the floor, & Hi Wall or Ceiling Returns.

The Heat Gain, will be greater on the Second Floor.

Thank you for taking a good look at this. Far right corner is tub/shower, then toilet, then vanity, then WI closet, so the dotted line by the stairwell is where I was thinking it might be best for the return. No door to closet and no door from bed to vanity area. But that also brings up another question. If you look close there is a small rectangle with a/c in it right across from that dotted area in the wi closet I was thinking of having another chase there for supply for wi, van. and toilet areas, by adding a soffit at ceiling level above the vanity with registers in all 3 areas. But having the return so close to a supply doesn't sound good. The whole area is only about 400 sq ft, so the bedroom area about 260, I am wondering if I could use just one large supply to the corner by the patio and use the other by the stairs as a return instead of in the wi closet. Thanks

That is practical. I suggest a small supply vent in the vanity. Near the return, but put the return above the stairs instead of in the vanity.

Moved to AOP.
Thank you for the map link. That's an excellent resource. The 2nd link I read, but not sure how that would be applicable to myself. My project isn't a diy although my questions would seem like it. It will definitely be let out to an HVAC contractor after we get energy calcs etc. I've never drawn a 2 story before and I am trying to get plumbing, electrical, fire sprinkler lines, and hvac figured out so I'll know what depth/height floor trusses will be required, mostly hinging on trunk size, 2-20x8 rectangle or 2-14" flex's.
