After talking with you the other day on the roof, it occurred to me that the 19XL became 19XR. I think you might be able to get yer hands on materials for 19XL.

Have you attempted to sign up to HVACPartners.com?

Once you have access, you will find the book you are looking for. There are different books for each (the 19XL and 19XR) but one machine does not replace the other. Both machines are still made, just depends on how you order it.

"Stop Major" along with "Downloader" and "Smartloader" are the programs we write and install into these machines.

Let me know if you have a problem getting approval to access hvacpartners and I'll see what I can do to find those books for you.

John Williams, Jr.,
Thanks for the info.. I was under the impression that the 19XL evolved into the 19XR and the 19XL was no longer made.
Anyway, I don't want to Hijack this thread on Seamus.
Dang! Guess I'll need to change my handle now.

John,
We have tried hvac partners, and are very much in need of this manual. Can you you help us. We have a prospective customer with 3 of these machines in disrepair. They could really use our help.

As far as I knew there is only a stop/major for a 19xl...Then get the service bullitens for the xr for the updates, like impeller setup. I tried to gain access to the HVAC site but cannot get a sponsor due to the fact I work for JCI. That sticks in my crawl...the other manufactures offer there bullitens to everyone but carrier does not.

19XR teardown

I attended the Carrier centrifual disassembly/ reassembly class in Syracuse NY last fall. In general the SOM gives the necessary information to do a teadown. Mostly follows the old 19D machine teardown procedure. ( A bit easier ). However, additional information I got. Materials & tools required for a teardown. Procedure to set the thrust bearing. Bearing & impeller clearence setting & measurements. etc. Could fax it to you if you need .

I maintain a 19XR with 134a . In Jan we contracted for a full rebuild of the unit. It had 38K hours on the machine with out a tear down. The bearings were in sad shape and the machine was very noisy.
Now the unit runs so quiet I can beleive its the same machine.
There is a complete tear down manual. The tech had a copy of one with specific pictures and detailed instruction on things like setting the bearing drift to 0009. I read the manual with the tech and watched the step by step process.
There are several key points on the rebuild that must be exact and with out this manual a rebuild would fail.
I beleive the tech obtain the manual from the Carrier factory class.
I dont have a copy but it exists.

Reaganro,
Was that a "Carrier" tech? Working for Carrier I can tell you even Carrier Techs don't have such books until absolutely neccesary (like a job to rebuild one). I believe we may have one set of books kept with a kit with all the special tools we worked with the factory to develop.

19xr

lirunaway,

I talked to the tech and he said that the book is a Carrier book. I only read several pages on adjusting the thrust bearing and the problem we were having with the float sticking but those pages were so clear and helpful with some pictures. It was a field copy.

They're developing more books and classes now. A lot of other things needed attention with the factories moving around. I don't think they expected teardowns on these machines so soon. The college educated don't believe a machine could be mis-selected. Plus you always get that new plant manager who thinks they're going to save money by turning up the temperature at the air handlers. Then the electric goes up from all the starts and stops. He/she turns the temps up even more and the machine continues to surge more running unloaded.

You are need to get 19XL Stop Major first, and than, You are need to get some page service bulitin of the 19XR. Because Carrier never print a Stop Major for 19XR up to now! Because the overhaul method is same of 19XL and 19XR. Only the impeller clearance find out method have a little differecent. If you want need to help, you can contact me by email!

19XR teardown

Someone emailed few months ago for these instructions and I did fax thrust disassemble/bearing clearence/ measurements/re assemble instruction (about 25 to 30 pages)on 19xr. Don't have in the e format. It is true the training manual gives pictures and step by step instructions on the diassembly /reassembly starting from 19d series.
