Hey Jez.....

If you want a contact name for Trend here in the US, email me. I know they are looking to set up reps all over the us and canada. I also know they are looking for people to work for Trend proper in the us. There is also a dealer in wisconsin here, that is looking for techs/programmers. Let me know, I could set you up.

Trend Controls in Vancouver BC

Is that it is not here in Vancouver BC....

Hello Jez,

If you are still watching this forum, Trend now has a dealer in Vancouver. Send me an email and I will put you in touch with them...

I have been working mostly with Trend controls for the last 4 years. My company installs about 95 % Trend and 5 % Novar. Trend is a breath of fresh air compared to Novar Logic One. Like others here have stated, the most impressive thing to me is the versatility of the controllers and the speed at which the development team in the UK resolves issues. Though Trend can integrate to lon, modbus, etc, there seems to be a heavy focus on developing bacnet into the controllers. This makes sense considering the close ties of the US Trend to Alerton. In fact, they share a training center in Redmond, WA. From my experience with Trend and Bacnet, I am very impressed. I am looking forward to see how this aspect of Trend matures this year.

I agree Orion. The sooner the better. We were asked to beta test the the bacnet vav controllers, but it never worked out with the jobs we have going on right now. I've stressed several times that these need to be fully programmable. Say No to fixed strategies!!

>We will have one very soon.

Should have been more specific. A freely programmable ASC type controller, priced in that market. We have high capacity bacnet controllers. If you have something coming in that price range, I'm all ears.

>We were asked to beta test the the bacnet vav controllers,

Have you read the sequence on these yet?? I think they may get a literary award for two page document that explains next to nothing.

>Say No to fixed strategies!!

Exactly. If the free progs come out close to the same cost or the fixed program is not flexible enough, the fixed units will die out in short order. I could rant on for hours why fixed progs just miss the mark. Todays market has little use for them.

Trend in Vancouver?

I am based in the UK and have been looking into a move to vancouver primarily but am also interested in the US, California,Nevada so have been looking at the BMS providers in the area. I have 12 years experience working with hvac control panel manufacture/installation/modification/retrofit of controllers. Mainly working with Trend products in that time but also Siemens, honeywell and andover. I started working for a Trend systems house last year although we use satchwell and continuam too and have been doing maintenance on hvac and commissioning a few small jobs. I am in the early stages of my Trend career (9 months) but by the time the move is on I should have a good few years under my belt. Can anyone tell me how Trend is progressing in this region or should I consider trying to gain experience with a more established company like honeywell?

I will be making a trip at the end of the year to visit a friend in vancouver and hopefully meet with perspective employers so anyone with contacts in these areas that could help with my questions on the industry would be most appreciated.

the only downfall ive seen with trend has to be their IQL's. Specifally the IQL 16. For some reason, they chose to close off very important parts of the strategy to be configured. For instance, minimum OA and DA temp setpoint just to name some. I will however agree that for the short time ive worked with them, there are a lot of capabilities. I think I just need rmore time with the system but all in all, not a terrible first impression.
