i Have been doing hvac for about 7 years now. but i have for the last 6 months started working for a company that does ALOT of zoning. and it was new to me but i caught on quick and LOVE IT. i always knew about it and how it worked just never worked on them or installed a zone system. recently though at work we been having controversy about the zone controls we use. We use both EWC and honeywell but most customers get honeywell cause of the well known name. but personally i like the EWC controls alot better, the troubleshooting guide and setup is alot easier for me. but dont get me wrong honeywell is not bad, but they can be cranky. the dampers, i have replaced no tellin how many, or the motors on them. and in addittion the dampers are going to spring loaded instead of motorized, and i just think that in itself is ridiculous. out of hundreds of zones i have fooled with i would say i have to fix or re-program something dealing with honeywell 5:1 compared to EWC. Now as far as honeywell stats i love them, they are easy to program understand and very very versatile, compared to say the infinity controls (even though we are a carrier dealer, lol) they can be very cranky or at least in my experience. oh and by the way why im talking about stats i think when the carrier edge came out and they have the two peice system setup, where if you dont have enough wires in the wall you can use the second peice at the unit. that was ingenious!! saves alot of BS and time when trying to maximize profit on the time like say when doing a changeout. but anyway i would like to hear from you all to see what your opinion is on either of these zone controllers or even some of carrier's controls for that matter. happy diagnosing for all you techs out their and remember, Safety First!

EWC all the way!!!!!!

When it comes to something like zoning I have rarely had a customer question what brand I was using. Being that I offer great warranties and great support with whatever I install, they normally will trust me with whatever I install. Brand is secondary.

Of course you always get the "consumer reports" goons that think it is gospel and must be abided by. Those customers I just become a used car salesmen too and give them whatever they want, although I don't believe in it.

I use both, but EWC is my first choice. Just looking at the EWC dampers tell you it's a better engineered item. I like the indicator lights so I know where the damper is in a second. I'm not fond of the spring return of the HW's.

The only reason I would use HW is if I need the stuff in a hurry and I'm not near a supplier that carried EWC.

EWC

I had to replace every motor in one town home project and several other 1 home jobs. They said they pay for it but then offer $60 or less per motor. Never bothered with the labor warranty, just exchanged the motors.
Also had another multistage dual fuel job that we used what the said then they said it wouldn't work, had to use different panel so I did. A Honeywell.
I understand everyone thinks they are great. Probably are. I just won't be using them anytime soon.
