i Have been doing hvac for about 7 years now. but i have for the last 6 months started working for a company that does ALOT of zoning. and it was new to me but i caught on quick and LOVE IT. i always knew about it and how it worked just never worked on them or installed a zone system. recently though at work we been having controversy about the zone controls we use. We use both EWC and honeywell but most customers get honeywell cause of the well known name. but personally i like the EWC controls alot better, the troubleshooting guide and setup is alot easier for me. but dont get me wrong honeywell is not bad, but they can be cranky. the dampers, i have replaced no tellin how many, or the motors on them. and in addittion the dampers are going to spring loaded instead of motorized, and i just think that in itself is ridiculous. out of hundreds of zones i have fooled with i would say i have to fix or re-program something dealing with honeywell 5:1 compared to EWC. Now as far as honeywell stats i love them, they are easy to program understand and very very versatile, compared to say the infinity controls (even though we are a carrier dealer, lol) they can be very cranky or at least in my experience. oh and by the way why im talking about stats i think when the carrier edge came out and they have the two peice system setup, where if you dont have enough wires in the wall you can use the second peice at the unit. that was ingenious!! saves alot of BS and time when trying to maximize profit on the time like say when doing a changeout. but anyway i would like to hear from you all to see what your opinion is on either of these zone controllers or even some of carrier's controls for that matter. happy diagnosing for all you techs out their and remember, Safety First!
