ok, by my acount, the pipe leaking down there in thew gulf is ten inch. I say this because the latest trick they are supposed to try is putting a six inch line inside with some baffle thingy to block off the flow. ok, so assuming a ten inch steel pipe. when i see the footage on the news, it appears that the oil is ripping out of that line. they also state it is five thousand feet down give or take. assuming a pressure of 2165 psig(0.433x500 feet), and then seeing the oil ripping out of that line, i am going to go out on a limb and say that the pressure drop per hundy is over 4 which we might normally see in comfort cooling apps. so, at a drop of 4, a ten inch line would have a flow rate at or exceeding 2000 gpm. so, by my math, that equals 2000gpm x 60minutes x 24hours, or nearly three million gallons per day. so based upon what we know, what say you???
