You'll find out that Trane has many different pricing structures for contractors. It's understandable that a contractor that sells $25K a year pay more than a $500K contractor. The differences can be massive, so needless to say many new Trane dealers won't stay Trane dealers unless they make no profit or get tired of paying close to retail for equipment and quit.
I have seen problems out of Trane. Have seen builders models with grounded compressors before and after the 5 year warranty. They're just an A/C unit, not God's gift to Air Conditioning. Incidently, several years ago we had a Trane unit that the Spine-Fin gluing machine ran out of glue to glue the fins to the aluminum tubing. The head pressure was high, they tried to say it was obviously something in the lines....for some reason I touched the Spine-Fin and it spun on the tube.....Uh....you think this might be a problem?? The scary part is that it passed all the factory inspections etc. WOW! They gave me a $100 labor allowance to cover several hours of replacement, freon, filter drier and everything! I actually like the idea of Spine-Fin. Carrier tried it and failed. G.E. perfected it with old 1936? technology. Funny how the best well known A/C units technology came out of Nazi Germany. I have also wondered if chemical cleanings on Trane coils affect the glue? Trane recommends water only to clean the coil, and a light propane torch to burn out the grass and debris....Anyone?
