I have a customer who is looking to bag about 300# of ice per day (more or less). Looking for an air cooled ice machine with large cubes for bagged ice. He has a 1300#, (KM1300 or something), in one of his other stores. I know most of you guys swear by Hoshizaki, but I can't stand the damn things. I prefer something with a faster cycle, even if it makes less ice. I hate waiting 45 minutes for the Hoshizakis when I have calls lined up.

I'm looking for a 600# unit. I prefer Manitowoc, and I'm gonna call my local distributor on it. I'm not sure if they make a cube that large. Any other ideas?

Where do most "bagged ice" ice cubes come from?

They are not hoshi nor Manitowac. They are tube ice.

The tube length is adjustable in each machine. Short tubes can be cut off or longer ones can also be cut off. Customer makes that choice.
They have baggers for those systems.

You can start your own ice plant with the right machine.

300# a day ... let him go buy it from a wholesale ice house who delivers.
300# is a five minute delivery at his doorsteps.
No headaches, no responsibility, no liability involved, no downtime, no repair bills, etc., etc.

R12's right about where most of the bagged ice comes from. A local ice manufacturer just south of me has a couple of Voght (sp?) NH3 tube icemakers that pump out about 150 tons per day.

I have a bunch of C-Store customers with Manitowocs who bag most of their ice production, mostly all 600 pounders. One has three Manitowoc QD1300 remotes running all year 'round and can't keep up.

The Manitowoc dice cube size works just fine for bagged product. I heard recently that their larger "regular" cube machines are no longer available due to lack of demand.

Personally though, I prefer the Hoshizaki. Even with the longer cycle times I find that there are by far fewer little nit-picky-PIA type problems with a Hoshi over a Mani that you don't have to wait through a complete cycle nearly as often. ;)

ICE BAGING

TRY CORNILUS THERE CYCLE TIME IS 21 MIN'S NO MATTER WHAT SIZE, AND WHAT AIR AND WATER TEMP, EASY TO FIX.
ALL THE CONPONENTS ARE IN THE FRONT, AND IS RUN BYE A UNIVERSAL CONTROL BOARD.

Cornilious?

Why ... out of the top five machines made ... they aren't even in the listing!
And hey ... that list even includes Scotsman!

Cornilus .... I cant remember the last one I worked on. They just arent popular.

If they were a product with value, the C-store market would be buying them left and backwards.

Anyone who makes a purchase based mainly on price alone is a fool.
There must be value in the deal.
Mani has proven value. So does Hoshi. Scotsman, well ... only old timers peddle those machines. And they do it mainly for reasons of nostalgia.

Although I usually favor the underdog, and I do apreciate machines which were made to be serviced with easy acess .... there also has to be that part about value and longevity.

If these are a qality machine, we will be hearing about them.

Do you rep them? Can you post more info about them for us to look into?

He wants to "save money". He has delivery to one store, and has a 1300# Hoshi in his other store. Wants to buy his own ice vendor and have the help bag ice when they're sitting around doing nothing.

I perform the service for an ice company here. Though I don't get to work on the big boy, since it's ammonia. I do all his warehouse stuff and bin rooms. Not to mention about 1000 ice vendors. Those big-uns can pump out the ice tho.

In round figures, it costs about 15 cents/ 8 lb bag including all direct costs except for the labor to bag it.

If you consider that it sells for between $1.00 and $1.50 a bag retail and cost roughly half that wholesale, there's a heck of an incentive to invest in an icemaker. There's always times when the hired help sitting around with nothing to do, so have 'em bag up some ice.

I have a customer

Who is willing to sell a relatively new, decommisioned for over a year now, Turbo.

I THINK it's a 80 or 100 ton per day machine.

Manual bagging, but the conveyers, storage bin, evaporative condenser, and twin 5H120's (Or 126's can't remember) all come with it.

They quit using it because their main plant is ammonia, and this is 22 unit. The ammonia plant whoops it's ass.

You want to get into bagged ice, this is a killer machine.

I'll pretend I didn't read the post supporting, even suggesting that someone waste their money on a POS IMI Cornelius.

That company should be forced to go out of business by the government for offering the junk that they do to American small businesses.

They're thieves employing idiotic engineers.

But I'll pretend I didn't read the post.;)

Cornelius or Corney for short

One of the local Soft drink distributors "leases" em to their customers. They're a marvelous piece of junk. Sure glad I don't have to work on em, as they have their own in house refer man. He wanders around talking to himself and wears a mojo bone around his neck. Guess it takes all types to make a world,,,,,,,,,,,,
