Wondering if people have seen problems with these, specifically the high end "learning" thermostats which are supposed to save people money on heating and cooling bills operating them.
I have seen complaints on Youtube of them no longer working after a few years, on one Youtube page someone said they had 2 of them where the heatlink failed in 2 years. He says, "Stone cold dead. After some reseach on Google it appears this is a widespread problem. The only solution is a complete replacement of the heatlink and thermostat, since they are linked together."
There was an HVAC technician who commented saying he hates them and calls them "Pests".
Are these more likely to fail than any other brand of thermostat? Cast me out of course, if I'm in the wrong place.

Nest is junk, unnecessary, the answer to a question nobody asked.
They are well known to be extremely unreliable and problem plagued.
But they have a good marketing department that focuses on homeowners that are led to believe they are a fix for a problem that doesn’t exist.

Nest is an example of great marketing...that is the ONLY thing it's good at.
I've seen it ruin control boards on furnaces.

If you dig into google's reviews it's average life span is poor.

If I get a service call, and the customer talks about odd or intermittent problems and they have a Nest, I explain the first thing to do is change the stat to something more conventional. I tell them they can keep it, maybe re-install later if other problems are found, but that's on them.

Please do yourself and your equipment a favor and get rid of that Nest Thermostat.

It has not only died an early death, but can cause all kinds of intermittent problems/issues.

Do the Ecobee smart thermostats work any better, or do the fare about the same? Thats exactly the other one I'm looking at. "Ecobee Enhanced". It seems to do about the same functions.

Not sure if they are sold in the big box stores, but if they are I would stay away from them.

I know that Honeywell ha models they sell in the big box stores and they are garbage as well as the Nest.

Make sure you are getting the Pro version of the Ecobee.

just had the nest installed yesterday and i have a electric furnace with a heat pump outside, idk if im liking the nest thermostat. feels like my furnace is running much more than before and aux heat never kicks on. its a high of 28 f today so im just hoping its running more because of the temps.. anybody have any input with the nest paired with electric furnace and heat pump ?

understandable but that reply isnt helping me out with what could be going on, i need some input on what other people have experienced with electric furnace with heat pump..

Seems aweful silly to have the heat pump running with aux heat strips ..... just set it up as having the furnace run below 36 degrees

Often they will cause reversing valve issues, and run the unit in cool mode with the backup heat on. Good luck.

I saw one that only delivered partial voltage to the reversing valve, cause it to vibrate and broke the capillary tube, lost charge, then took out the compressor. Several thousands of $ to get things back in order.
