Hi I'm new here, but have been a owner builder and have remodeled my present condo.
It's time for a new system as the 40 year old carrier/bryant system is failing.
To cut to the chase the furnace is 40hx21w a 3 ton unit with a 18 inch ductwork return and a 14 inch output.
Now here's my question since almost all the 3 ton cabinets I have found are 34 high and 17 wide....I would think that re configuring the
ductwork could be expensive. I also found that American Standard makes a 40H X 21w cabinet, but it is a 4 ton rated. My AC unit is a 2 ton
for some reason and that needs to be replaced because it is R22
My return upstairs takes a 20x20 filter and can be modified to a 24 or 25 x 20
the Condo is 3300 sq ft on 2 floors....the equipment room is downstairs.
Could I use the 4 ton unit? will the 14 inch duct work create a bottle neck? I would like to use a seer 14 or 16 AC unit maybe 3 ton.
I have 3 estimators coming and I hope those here can help me with a quick education. My goal is to get the best system without excessive reworking from old to new.
I hope I have explained my situation without to much confusion.
Just to add....I live at 4500 elevation in Norther Nevada.....the temps range from 104 in the summer and the teens in the Winter. I was thinking a 80 percent 2 stage vari speed furnace would work well.
but a Zone 4 location calls for +90 efficiency furnace .
Thanks in advance for any help.
