Need help figuring out why the red wire to my thermostat has no voltage. Seeking to understand before I call a tech. Is the transformer that supplies the 24V to the thermostat in the furnace? Thanks in advance.

Why do you need to understand? Unless you're trying to fix it yourself. Where does the wire come from...what does it go to? What energizes that wire?
IOW, let the tech figure it out.

Typically the transformer is inside of the furnace. Not always, but usually. You (or probably better yet, your HVAC tech) will need to do a little thing called "troubleshooting" to find out what the issue is. This usually involves following a wiring diagram and using a voltmeter to check different parts of the system.
