I just had a new unit installed and decided to go with an ecobee 3 lite thermostat. For some reason my ac will turn on almost exactly 1 degree prior to what it’s set at. On preferences I do have the cooling smart recovery disabled. I was told this tries to learn how you want the air at a certain time. I called tech support and they told me that my data on their screens showed the thermostat kicking on at 76.7 but I saw it kick on at 75 and I had it set for 76. If anyone has had an issue like this I would appreciate any help. Oh also this is my second ecobee so it’s something in the settings or on my end. I believe the unit is good unless 2 of them are bad.

I have contacted them yet about the problem. I bought the ecobee myself from Home depot and they installed it. They told me before I bought it that they weren't a fan of them and sell Nest thermostats. However I feel the ecobee does so much more then the Nest.

Yes they sell Nest. He told me that have had a lot of problems with ecobee and that’s why they sell Nest. I can believe it now. I installed my old thermostat and it’s working correctly . Ac comes on and shuts off when it should.

It's been my experience, that any thermostats bought from Home Depot or Lowes are failing within 3 to 18 months, if not right out of the box. And it doesn't matter if it's a nest, ecobee, or a Honeywell. They all suck from the box stores. Very high failure rates.

Thank you for telling me that. I didn’t know that. I bought the 2 I had from Home Depot

Should have had a pro install a pro model. 5 year warranty.

I set my thermostats and forget ‘em. I don’t bother paying attention to when they turn on and off. I glance at it while walking by and see my set point being met and 49%RH. I’m good with whatever it calculates to be the best operation.

Are you talking about the ecobee or nest? My contractor told me that they have a 5 year warranty on the Nest that they sell compared to the 3 year at Home Depot. I didn’t know they were different.

Lots of things from the big box stores aren't the same quality, as the the same items in a real suppliers store.
Go to the local cub cadet mowers outlet. Then go look at the same mowers at the box stores. They're 1500.00 cheaper..but the frame is weaker, the deck is thinner, the tires and wheels are not the same. Goes for power tools, thermostats and lots more. They're cheaper for a reason. And less warranty, for a reason... YMMV.

Yes, I do agree with you. Is there a hvac online store to purchase pro model thermostats? I did a google search and couldn’t find anything. Or are they solely sold to contractors? Thanks

I would order directly from the manufacturer, or a local supply house, if they will sell to the public. Our supply house will sell filters, thermostats, and things like that. Just no freon, or equipment, to the general public.

I didn’t read all the comments so if this has been said just disregard. Ecobee is a great tstat, much better than nest. The settings can be changed, just get the instructions out and read thru. Temp differential can be set from .5-3 degrees. It can be set to overcool, cool dissipation time, temp correction, and more. Most likely just needs set to suit you.
