Worked on a fairly newly installed by others today- York on the outside paint and sticker. Mfg 3-19. But was a carrier like everything. Something smart series or something.

That would be a CDR (Competitive Direct Replacement) unit, designed basically to mirror a Carrier.
Has an SSE board (Simplicity Smart Equipment).
Nasty little things.
The blower compartment is so tight there is no real blower curve to work off of, due to all the turbulence in the compartment. Heard that when I was in class at the Norman plant last.

carrier dominated the RTU market share in the 80's, and a little later......still LOTS of those out there. to the point that several manufacturers are making direct replacements.

As rider said, they decided to make them to be more competitive. When they didn't have that line, any york replacement required a roof curb adapter, which raised the installation price. personally, I think they could have matched the return and supply without copying the crap design otherwise.

Interesting. Makes sense and I know they were carriers that were replaced. I know... because installing contractor left all the old RTUS on the roof- setting them on 2x4s. For being a mirror image they sure did a good job. Even down to the slide out panel to get at heating to the blower configuration. Crap did I tighten them bolts?!

These RTUS that were replaced certainly were not that old. I’m guessing it the building just got new owners with the let’s replace with something “more efficient”. The building is no more than 10 if that.

You could never harvest ANY numbers on a roof that would show these are "more efficient" than what is sitting on the 2x4's.

York & Goodman were the first to offer a Carrier clone. That's all Goodman made, York kept their own footprint so replacing a York was easy. Now about everyone offers one. Usually a cheap model it seems but I was never a big fan of Carrier RTUs though they are good for biz. BTW, what do you guys think of Carrier's wild new blower and condenser fan blade?

Ohhhhhh not true- these had super duper green 100% recycled aluminum microchannels for both coils, saving the world one at a time. May have been the only difference.

Yep. I've seen Daiken's and Rheem's that are almost an exact copy too.

Here's Lennox's version...

What I'm seeing more and more of are the ICP units. They are EXACTLY like the carriers; even have the same Carrier schematic in the unit. But cannot get the parts from Carrier, unless you show up at Sigler with a photo of the part and claim the model and serial numbers are too faded to read.

Even called for Carrier tech support a couple of weeks ago, and the tech support guy said the numbers weren't good. Pulled up the photo of the nomenclature plate, and it was an ICP. We both got a good chuckle out of that one!

I looked at that link of the Lennox- I did note some differences with the Lennox but an obvious clone for sure. Another common denominator regardless of make is the models seem to start with Z-
