I have contacted their support and received yes and no answers two different times. I am getting concerned this isn't the best thermostat choice for my system on that alone.

I am getting a 2 stage heat pump that has two stages of heating and two stages of cooling each. For extremely cold weather there is a 2 stage propane furnace. This means I need a thermostat that can support 4 stages of heating simultaneously (Heat pump 1, heatpump 2, gas furnace 1, gas furnace 2). I am confused by the wording of the nest: "Three stages of heating and two stages of cooling for conventional systems, and two stages of heating and cooling with auxiliary heat for heat pumps."

If not can you suggest one? My only requirements besides supporting the above system is Wifi, scheduler to turn it own at night and up before we wake up, and have control over the fan. Sometimes we use a woodstove to heat which is nice to have the fan always on. The house is only one zone.

You’ll want a Honeywell for this task, beenthere offers an excellent suggestion in his post.
Nest is a poor product, with poor product support, poor options for the price. It’s a fad product in shiny packaging

Not sure I believe that...Heat pump would go to Y1, Y2, G, O/B and furnace would go to W1 and W2. 4 stages of heat, 2 stages of cooling. What am I not understanding here?

x2 recommending Honeywell IAQ.

Nest is nothing but trouble.

I just realized NEST is an acronym for New Expensive Shiny Turd or New Expensive Shi**y Thermostat.

That its 3 heat 2 cool on heat pumps, and 2 heat 2 cool on conventional systems.

If it could do 4 stages of heat. It would be listed as 4 heat 2 cool heat pump.

But that is what my system is? I do not have one device that is 4 stages... I have a heat pump that has two stages, and a propane furnace as backup that has two stages.

I don't know beenthere. I just found this on their support page, compatible with "Two stage heat pump with separate two stage furnace heating (Dual fuel)* ". This is what I have so I think it is compatible.

You can listen to us or purchase your own
Beenthere is right but it’s your call!

Since this is a new install, what thermostat is your installing company suggesting for the equipment?

You clearly know more than all of us. You should start a website and advise people.

Jesus christ you guys are hilariously sensitive. The support page for the product says one thing, and you guys say otherwise. I am trying to figure out the discrepancy. Seems wrong to think they would advertise just straight up false information. I get it you guys don't like installing them for various reasons but just saying things about it that conflict their support page with nothing to back it up but sarcasm seems disingenuous.

They are suggesting a honeywell T6 pro which made me ask the question because it says the same thing as the nest. It can handle 3 Heat/2 Cool Heat Pumps, 2 Heat/2 Cool Conventional Systems. I have no idea if this can control all 4 stages because everyone has got their panties in a bunch over the nest brand. They are saying it can. I got 6 quotes and these guys seem really knowledgeable.
