So Ohio contractor requirements are far less stringent, now I'm not sure how or if you can roll the Ohio contractors to KY using the recipricocity without the mechanical journeyman process. I do know that most the contractors here have a Ohio masters # and a KY masters #. I'm gonna ask the inspector when he calls me back tomorrow.

Kentucky does not reciprocate with any other state but Ohio and all our techs have to test. If your interested in opening a business immediately you can always find a technician that will sell his masters, meaning your paying him and staffing him. Then after you're established you can test yourself and cut out the 2 year wait.

I'm really familiar with the area, worked for the biggest residential company in Lexington for 5 years, beautiful area. Super competitive market.

Just an FYI ... its 2 years experience under a master to be able to sit for the journeyman license in KY, but completing an approved HVAC program at a tech college will knock off a year, making it tech college program, plus one years experience under master to sit for journeyman license. There are stipulations on the KY licensure website about how many hours the program must be to be "approved" and I have no idea how they view out of state programs, military programs, etc. I know KY's technical college system programs work ... I'd wager any real program meeting the contact hours requirement would be ok.

I thought the universal was required. I'm not ready to go it alone, but 5 years + 5 more years seemed like a lot.

Thanks to some helpful posts, I can now see it's 2 + 2.

New to the HVAC talk, so I'm not sure where to post this questionq, I just passed my Kentucky masters and just noticed on the application thay ask about felonies, does anyone know what type would keep from getting one?
