Anyone knowledgeable about both brands? TZ units only come in 14 and 15 SEER but all come with demand defrost. AIREASE only have demand defrost on highest SEER models. Both brands carry 10 yr. parts warranty.

BUT, is either one more durable, quieter or otherwise preferable?

So Thermal Zone doesn’t use the new Rheem design?
Yeah... that is correct.

ThermalZone is a 'house brand' of United Refrigeration... made by Rheem.

AlliedAir is a 'clone' product of Lennox...

There are 60-something brands of equipment, made by 7 manufacturers...
And most of the internal parts are either similar or the same.

The coils and cabinets are, for the most part, the proprietary parts of most brands.

Having said that...
Choose the contractor that will pay attention to details when installing your new system...
As installation is more important than the name on the box.

ga-hvac-tech, considered asking you to do it, but do you know if WeatherKing has the new Rheem/Ruud non-cube platform?
Are you in the metro Atlanta area???
If so... click on my screen name and get my Email addy from my profile...

WeatherKing is the same as ThermalZone... Only Rheem and Ruud get the new outdoor units.
Having said that... the furnaces are the newer designs.
I have not had that much issue with the ThermalZone AC units... we do not do many HP's in my area.

Edit: Curious this thread is about AlliedAir and ThermalZone... as these are the two brands we install... :)

Yes, I am in metro ATL which is why I was interested in your brands. Your other post indicates you don’t service the entire metro area so I’m probably too far in Peachtree City.

I do have one customer down there... long term customer... airline pilot...
BTW: I have a hobby aircraft at an airport in west GA... :)

We are putting in one of those high end variable capacity AC and heat systems for them... :)

Send me an Email... at the least I can guide you to some wiser choices... :)

THANKS!

WeatherKing is the old square cube. Sure Comfort is the new platform without the cabinet.
I think I am missing something here...
*SureComfort is gone... it was a Rheem clone, production ended in the Spring of 2015 and the stock was sold off by the end of October 2015. I knew one of the branch managers that did the last of the liquidation.
*I thought ThermalZone was the same innerds as WeatherKing... even though the sheet-metal grills have a different 'vent' pattern.
*I seriously doubt any name other than Rheem and Ruud have the new outdoor units... however I could be wrong.

Hey BL... can you check this with your factory rep... THX!

Is SureComfort the cube platform or the newer Rheem/Ruud design?
What you see in that picture is definitely NOT the cube platform...

History of the name SureComfort:
The name was created so Home Depot could have a 'house brand' of equipment, products were available in 2006... and as usual... HD ran the name into the ground.
Rheem corp unloaded most of the 'old design' stock under the SureComfort name... as the new designs came out... in 2015... and closed down the name.
How do I know this... the stock was shipped to Atlanta, and a friend of mine was the branch manager of the supply house that sold off the last of the stock.

Looks like Rheem has 'revived' the name so to say... time to take a look at the tech specs of the unit and see how it is built.

Update...

Looked through the tech specs online (google sure-comfort)... looks like this unit has most of the features of the new Rheem/Ruud design I saw a few years ago at a Rheem distributor... so this unit appears to be mostly the new design.
Would like to see one in person to get a good look at it.

I did the same, but I only saw in the literature "scroll" compressor, I wonder if it's the Copeland Scroll? Could be one of those Alliance Scroll compressors. :eek2:

Good point Bill...
If it is an LG scroll (I believe they call them 'inter-link')... they have been in Lennox equipment for a while... they have a track record.
The Alliance scrolls though... they also have a track record... with some negative marks.

THANKS! Sounds like what I want, if enhanced defrost means on demand.

I think it does... I would verify that though... I could not find it in the tech stuff available online...
BL... do you know if the SureComfort HP has the Ranco emand defrost board in it???

One thing I do not like about this unit... we do not like 'open coils'... we prefer a metal jacket (with louvers) around the coil. Avoids physical damage.
