Hello!
My family and I have recently rented an older house for the year and are pretty new to living in a house. We have been in an apartment for the past 8 years and never had to worry about some if the things that come with living in a home such as furnaces and air conditioners.
The home is an older bungalow, but it seems that it was renovated not too long ago with new windows and doors. The back bed rooms are freezing though. The exterior walls are definitely a main source of heat loss in those rooms.
The first few days we were here the dryness was unbearable. My kids would wake up with bloody noses and my wife and I could barley swallow when we would wake up.
After after a few days of living here (I guess with taking showers and cooking) the humidity seemed to have risen a bit. Either way, I went out and bought a digital weather station with multiple sensors.
I put the sensors throughout the house and the temperatures would range from 17C (62.6F) to 24C (75F). The humidity was also all over the place from 20% up to 44% depending on the room.
The weird part is my bedroom would be 17C most mornings when waking up and the humidity would be about 40%, but we would still wake up with scratchy throats. I'm not even sure its a humidity issue and maybe an air quality issue?
The living room is the hottest room with the lowest humidity reading, but because the thermostat is in this room, the temperature is this room needs to be brought up to 28C (82 F) in order to get my bedroom to 20C (68F).
Any advice on what can be done here?
And maybe about the dryness with high humidity readings?
Thanks!
