I think $ installed is a fair price installed. $ for the tech, $ for the part.
Sir, I ask you to explain this pricing summery you came up with. How do you figure said money will keep a fully stocked truck on the road, helping customers such as yourself who are in need?
To explain my previous comments, the Internet in general has caused major disruption in how customers see repair charges. Sure you can get parts shipped to your home cheap. But god knows where they came from, or what quality they will be. And they haven't been purchased to sit on a truck shelf to help those that need it.
Are you the type of consumer that sees those involved in this trade as laborers that had no other opportunities?
I'm not trying to be personal or argumentative here, but I would like to hear your opinions on said topics.

I get paid for an hour minimum on overtime calls. Multiply what you think a tech is worth by 5 and my wage is covered for that hour. Doesnt cover any of the other business expenses though. Sorry mam but that's reality.

The Mr Bill price summery letter doesn't seem the same without coming from Mr Bill :grin2:

When I go to the dentist, the ladies clean my teeth. Every other visit, the DDS looks at them for about 30 seconds. They add $59 to my bill.

That transladed to $7080 per hour.
I see a specialist a few times a year for a medical treatment. Office visits last around 10 minutes. The last one I timed and I was in the exam room for 7 minutes. The fee for just the doctor was $506. For 7 minutes of their time.

We sure don't even want to bring up anything about popcorn and a drink at the movies. :)

Prescription medication, groceries from the market, your morning coffee, a meal at a restaurant, medical treatment, cable tv, smartphones.........
But I guess all that's bull and void and we're the crooks.

I can't believe what happened. I live near Tampa,FL and the temp was 94 degrees outside. Came home from work at 6pm to find my 3000 sf home very warm inside. i called a local ac company and placed a service call. The technician showed up at 6:50 which told me over the phone he would be 30 mins but ok, I was hot. The outside fan was not running and the tech had the ac up and running in 6 minutes which was great. he hands me the bill for $$$ and I almost fell over. I said what did you do in 6 minutes to get my 5 ton trane running so quick. he stated the dual capacitator was bad. he said i needed one, he explained what a dual cap was, its for the compressor and fan motor. I said my compressor runs but the fan does not. why did i need two caps when he clearly stated i need the fan cap. one cap would be cheaper then two!!! The service call was $$ and the part was $ but ok. Im like wtf, I was being taking advantage of because I live in a gated community with a big home. I went inside and googled that 80-7.5-440 part and found it for $ with free shipping. The call should have been $$ since it only took minutes to fix and the part maybe marked up 20% which would have been acceptable. I will never used that company again. I called the owner and he *****ed me out for questioning his pricing. No wonder we as homeowners can't trust repair men. Im filing complaints asap fro overcharging.
So, you had everything done in less than an hour. (Sounds like a one-hour franchise...) Even though he explained to you what a dual capacitor does you still dont get why he didnt replace just one. But he really did replace just one...there are 2 built into one case of the capacitor. When one goes bad, both get replaced.

I highly suggest you start an hvac company because all the costs to start and run one will stagger you. What you got for that money was a huge deal. A fire sale. In this case, when using another company, YOU dont get to dictate the pricing or charges.

I submit, that you're ungrateful, dont like when someone knows more than you, and you're a whiner and cheapskate. I bet your neighbors dont think much of you either.

I'm betting the OP is an engineer.
Good luck going after the guy for over charging. Won’t happen.
I’m betting you were given a price up front & you signed- authorizing the work.
Unbelievable. Here’s betting you didn’t say a thing to the tech except here’s your check & thank you.
Then the whining started after he left. Another guy who wants something for nothing. You have 0 clue what it costs to put a truck in your driveway. None. Doctors & attorneys charge a few hundred an hour & they don’t offer house calls. We do.

OP - I am close to your area Polk County. I did not see the prices. How some companies play the game. Companies will overcharge more than 3 times the amount of others. They do not want to do REPAIR service. They do not care and do not want you to call them back for REPAIR service! Life in the big city? Technicians get very very few call backs even when they do a poor job because of the pricing. Example somewhat of their tactics. Service call no Cooling 5:30 p.m. on a Friday and it's 95 degrees outside. Mr. Custmer system is old and wore-out needs many many repairs. We need to special order parts and may take 7 to 10 days to get the parts. For a new system . Our company can do financing for very little money down just sign here and we'll have your new system installed up and running in about 6 hours. Other games-- https://youtu.be/VEWEGYecF68D - OP- you could have called for a free second opinion? Not knowing the price don't know if you got ripped but could have been worse as you can see in the link I sent you? Get a referral from a friend co-worker relative someone you can trust and ask how recent the referral is. Have your system cleaned and tuned up there is a reason the capacitor went out.

Doug-Did you happen to see the price he was willing to pay?

OP- was the correct size capacitor installed? Capacitors hold a charge be careful you might get zapped. Did you give the technician an attitude? Did you argue with him about cost? Did you dispute the credit card charge? Stop payment on the check? After reading the post do you still feel like your Angus was peppered?

I am guessing yellow vans? Owner's first name starts with letter S? Owner likes to show his picture on his advertisement. Have you noticed how much he has aged in the last 3 years? Bad Karma for his company? Bad Karma for the technician?
