I have fin tube radiation in a building, the problem is they built a cabinets around the radiators with a grill at the bottom and grill at the top both on the front. Granite tops, so I can't put a grill in the Granite. There's not enough convection so the rooms are freezing, inside the cabinet is roasting hot. Looking for a small blower assembly to put behind the grills which are 3 to 6 feet long and 6 inches high. BTW we talked about having new fronts made and putting muffin fans behind Square grills, it got shot down. 120 VAC is available for power, PE Switch will control the fans.

They make kick space heaters but they come with coils and or electric heaters already. Sounds like a architect designed that. Looks pretty we will worry if it doesnt work later.

They renovated the building, made the building look pretty, We told them the 1989 mechanical system and lighting system was shot. Needed all electrical up graded. Not a Dime was spent on these. We told them about the problem with radiators in cabinet, they made it worse. I Found the fans, it's going to be expensive to customize.

thats so sad....

as pecmsg says the convectors are to wash the windows with heat. even with the add on fans, i see the heat being blown towards the inside. nice to feel heat, but comfort i believe comes from "mean radiant temperature"

cold walls and windows will still make the occupants feel cold.

i know convectors are not radiators. but blocking the airflow of fin/tube is like when i see homeowners build cabinets around CI radiators. i mean they radiate heat, so does the sun. and what happens when you move into the shade?, why would you block the one thing that heats the house????

sorry rant over

In the 80's Grande Central Rail Road Terminal in NYC was renovated. The main 42st entrance had new carpet laid. Beautiful White base with Bright Red Roses a real work of art. Architects, engineers, building managers patting each other on the back on how great it looked. Well 6 months later during the first snow storm they realized what we were laughing at, All the salt used to de-ice the streets and sidewalks got tracked in. The white turned gray and the roses bleed Red. The carpet was ripped out that spring, didn't get One Year out of it.

Good Luck with the Heaters, hope you don't get married to it.

I need to find a normally open clip on aqua-stat. I've looked, can only find normally closed, I though Honeywell had a three wire change over aquastat, that I could use, but can't find that.

At best you're creating a jury-rig solution. If it doesn't perform perfect, you'll be married to it, every problem in the near vicinity and a customer you can't make happy. I'd refer this to the owner's engineer and when direction provided, follow to the letter.
