Does anybody know whether Hobart includes date of manufacture in their serial numbers? I called our local Hobart and they said the last three numbers were the date of manufacture. None of the units I have checked support this. Several decades off.

No they dont ........There is a M.L. number on the plate by the serial number , this pin points the manufactor date but unfortunately you would have to call them to find out .
What Hobart does for example , lets say they make a dishwasher like the SR- 24 H for 15 years . Over the years they keep modifying the unit , and slightly upgrading it , so when ordering parts you should always give the Serial and M.L. number .
Hope this helps you .

As the previous poster mentions, you can't decipher Hobart serial or ML numbers. I have about 30 pieces of Hobart equipment ranging from mixers to slicers to reach-ins to dishwashers and I couldn't make heads or tails of the numbers. Finally, I got hold of someone at Hobart who I emailed all the model numbers, serial numbers and ML numbers to and they emailed me back the month and year of manufacture. Even after I got the information, I still couldn't figure out where in the serial and ML numbers the manufacture dates were buried.

There was really not a global system for serials. Each plant had a system for doing it. Cooking equipment did have the date embedded by an alpha code at one time. If you post your serials and tell me what type I can probably get close to a date for you.

I'll have to do some digging on that one! They came out about 2000. They are a beast to service. The scale controller actually controls the wrapper best I remember. I don't touch weigh wrap stuff anymore.

Thanks, samservice. It is old, but what we do is restoration. First I do the primary cleaning/sanitizing, testing and identifying problems, then I have Hobart come to our shop and check them out. He does some repairs, then I order followup parts and finish it off. We send everything out with a warranty, and where a lot of used units are sold as "refurbished", I prefer to back what I do as restorations. Sometimes I lose my butt backing a warranty, but for the most part I have looked behind every cover, run every test, and replaced all high-use parts. I appreciate the knowledge that is here on this site.

The first two numbers are the plant inwhich the unit was made. Then you have running serial number. The m.l. Is materials list so you will be able to detemine what options . Sometimes you will have letters after serial od ml. Sometimes this is the date code. Sometimes we have to get with support to find out when machine was put into service to get an idea of age. I can tell you the uws came out around 1998 it was replaced by the aws. Uws is a. Mechanicial drive machine that is haed on cams. Mostly due to poor maintence and lack of lubrication.
