I got the boss to buy me the Nissan NV 2500 Van high roof, with the drop down roof ladder rack,,,,,,,,LET ME TELL YOU THIS IS THE BEST VAN OUT THERE I'M 6'4' AND STILL HAVE HEAD ROOM ON THE BACK,,,FULL FRONT LEG ROOM, THE A/C IS SUPER COLD HERE IN THE HOT CA, CENTRAL VALLEY 108' IN THE SUMMER TIME. I HAVE HAD IT NOW FOR 2 YEARS AND WOULD NOT CHANGE,,,,,,28 YEARS IN THE COMM AND RES TRADE, AND IT IS MADE IN KENTUCKY USA

Definitely Chevy..all these new trucks just look downright awkward to me IMO
Well, I don't think you can get the old Econoline vans from Ford anymore. They, along with Dodge have new designs that look completely different (both very ugly, IMHO). The "Sprinter" vans are still sold through Mercedes dealers, if you like those. Since the new Ford and Dodge designs are so new and untested (and ugly), you might be better off staying with the Chevy model.

If you are into the new style of vans, there is also one out there from Nissan to consider.
Don't buy it on looks. Do you buy a vacuum pump on how it looks or how it performs? Some of those "ugly" vehicles are made by manufacturers that haven't had a bunch of recalls lately and have a good reputation for quality. I would recommend going with one with a high roof so you can walk in it, but to each his own.

Whatever you do, don't get a Sprinter (big, but lots of computer problems). I personally prefer Chevy. Ford's don't have as much cargo room and a 10' stick of pipe will barely fit.

Like the sprinter, not sure if I will ever get it back. Only had 217k miles. After I got it back from engine dhop (6 months), I find it needs a new head. Well if I don't have to sleeve #5 cylinder I will qeep pouring $$ into it. Only time will tell.

Some people have all the luck. Did you buy it new?
Yeah, it the 2.7 5 cyl. I think the problems are with the V-6's
I've only had to replace the water pump, turbo hose, belt tensioner, brakes, struts and a/c compressor.
I was thinking of getting another one after I've seen the price of the new Transit diesel and the Dodge 3.0 diesel
Mercedes makes a 4 cyl diesel for the Sprinter now and its right in line pricewise with the others.
As for me I never had much luck with the Fords and Chevys. I get the big blocks and around 250 K they were pretty much done with.

Yea I have the 2.7, loved the truck till the engine blew. The garage hade it for 6 months. While it was there some one stuffed the exhaust pipe full of Milk Bone dog biscuts. That is probably what caused the turbo to blow at about 147 miles on the new engine. The new garage says the head is bad. The first shop had the head redone. Now I understand that the heads can't be repaired. Also the 2nd shop doesn't like the # 5 cylinder. I will learn more about that on Monday. If the cylinder is ok I will buy a brand new head from Euro Parts in San Diago. If it is bad I "may" just buy a used head from Dakota auto parts in Texas and see what happens. Probably in it for about 13K now. Oh the head that I bought to replace the original bad head came from A place (spelled crook), in Ma. When I called him he said that any time you bought a used head you should send it in to be re done. Funny, when I worked for All Auto parts in Glendale Ca, we never thought like that and guaranteed anything we sold. Well we will see what a new week brings.

Diesels have turned into unreliable nightmares due to all the emission controls. You might just as well get the gasser, because the new Sprinters become money pits once they hit 150k.

Yup, at one time diesels were the best, but not any more thanks to the environazis.

And at the same time all the emissions controls have extended the life of gas engines to the point that their life expectancy is equal or greater than even the old style diesels. Old gas engines wore out because raw gas diluted the oil, causing loss of lubrication. With how lean they run engines today there is no unburned fuel to dilute the oil.

The only reason I would consider a diesel is if I was doing a lot of towing.

In my case with the diesel I was towed a lot.

Right and the new diesels dump garbarge into the intake with the EGR, have a DPF in the exhaust to cause back pressure in the exhaust and push fuel past the rings into the crankcase. I think a real sinister diesel hater thought up these devices?

I've never had a choice on what to drive but my favorite so far was a Chevy van with side doors on both sides , and a service rack down the middle. Never had to crawl inside to get anything

Love my Sprinter except for the fact that it doesn't run.[/QUOTE]

got two more, one with a blown turbo, the other needs glow plugs. my boss gave-up on those things after seven vans could not run for three months without a breakdown. They do make for decent storage sheds however

Your boss thought his initial donation to the German economy was enough, not so .If he need those vans running he have to make some more donation with each part that carries the Benz symbol.
