hello, just curious how many people really do a heatload/heatgain calculation before installing a new unit, I have been using manual-J because that is what i was taught in school.:cool:

It would be interesting to see some surveys on how many do a heat-gain/heat-loss of any kind.

I am concerned that it would be a very low percentage of them that do it.

The same thing goes for checking for proper air flow through the E-Coil & to each room. Everything is roughshod guesswork unless things are done right & in the proper sequence. - udarrell

I do a quick heat loss

What, like I'm the only one?

Beenthere Im like you and I will do quick heatloss first and if numbers are close I will take time to do thorough heat lost. It can take me 1.5 hour to do proper heat loss. The city is asking for proper heat loss on new construction 6 to 8 sheets long depending on levels. I do offer 100% customer satisfaction for 1 year and had to increase size 3 times in last 2 years. Just about all other contractors oversizes A/Cs in my area. We did alot of A/Cs last year over 160 stopped counting.

J = Required in FL

It's the Law in Florida for New Construction
FBC Section 13-607
.... Cooling and heating design loads, for the purpose of sizing HVAC equipment and designing HVAC systems, shall be determined for the dwelling spaces (typically rooms or zones) served by each piece of equipment in accordance with ACCA Manual J, ACCA Manual N, or the ASHRAE Cooling and Heating Load Calculation Manual ...
